Webcomic: Chapter Four, Page One

I gave up on using the webcomic pages for this portfolio blog for a while because they were no longer up to par and therefore were not demonstrating my skills. However, with the beginning of Chapter Four, I have renewed my efforts. The pages should look much better from now on.

Also I do not generally post fan art on this blog, but this is the first time in quite a while that I have completed a drawing that was not related to the web comic in any way. The characters belong to their respective owners.

Page 10, Character Sheet

Chapter One of Rose With Thorns is now complete! Page 10 has been released today, concluding our introduction to our main character. Rose's abilities may seem random now, but in due time their origin will be revealed both to the reader and to her. I'm not uploading it without the text since there's no speech bubbles to cover anything.

I also finally did an outfit and color sheet for Thatch. His attire will change as the story goes on (as will Rose's), but this is a good start. He actually won't appear until Chapter Three.

Webcomic - Page 9

Page 9 is here! Just one page left in this chapter. During the next week I'm going to be working hard on Chapter 2, since it will have several varied backgrounds. If there's time in the midst of that I'd really like to do another character's color and outfit guide chart.

My webcomic Rose With Thorns has officially launched today! Each week I will post a link to the blog with the latest page at the top, and also post the page sans text here for viewing pleasure. I hope you all enjoy reading!

Character Design: "Rose" and "Charlie"

Within the coming week, I am going to be officially starting a webcomic titled "Rose With Thorns". This blog will start to update more frequently when that happens, as I'll be providing the links to pages as they are released on Wordpress.

Before then, however, I thought I'd share the designs of two of the (so far) three major characters that the comic revolves around.

This is Rose, the title character. She's a seventeen year old girl from a troubled home.

This is Charlie, a half-Native American man that Rose meets after running away from home.

Cover art concepts and an initial first page were posted on the blog quite a while ago, but they'll be completely redone for this.

Personal Project - Original Character

Something poster-like I did a few weeks ago of my alien woman, Bit. Mechanic by day, pirate-hunter by night. Paint Tool SAI, several hours over the span of a week.

Graphic Novel Logo

A while after making that cover for a potential graphic novel, I decided that the title logo looked... awful... and decided to make a better one in Illustrator. So here it is.

Something I've dreamed of doing for quite some time is my own graphic novel. Even though the story and characters this one have quite a bit of developing to do before I'm ready for a cover image, it was good practice. Done in Paint Tool SAI.

Caricatures 2

These three were commissions, all from the same client. They are of her relatives and were purchased as gifts. The third one is based on a deliberately cheesy Christmas card that her sister and brother-in-law sent of themselves and their three pets with matching turtle necks.

Crime and Punishment Painting

One of my better paintings from Advanced. It's meant to represent a classic novel, but also be apparent to the viewer whether they've read it or not. I think it works as both an illustration and a painting. Oil on 18"x24" canvas.

Portrait - Frida Kahlo

This was my final assignment for Advanced Painting. Frida Kahlo has been a great influence on me, especially my last few years at art school. Finishing my art school career with her seemed fitting. Oil paint on 18"x24" canvas.

Now that things are calming down and I've successfully relocated to Tulsa, Oklahoma, I think it's time to officially open for business!

I offer quality artworks at what I believe to be fair prices, and those prices vary based on complexity and medium used. The rest of the blog's entries show great examples of my work.

Caricatures:
 Base Price: $10, includes color and shipping
 Additional Characters: +$5 each, up to 5 characters per image

Character Drawings
 Base Price: $10 for a bust sketch, $20 for full-body, uncolored sketch
   Additional sketched characters: +$5, limit 3 per sketch
 Inked: $25 for full-body, inked drawing
  Additional inked characters: +$5, limit 3 per drawing
Colored: $35 for digitally colored full-body drawing, traditional coloring is currently not offered.
 Additional colored characters: +$10 each
Backgrounds are negotiable
You are not required to have these drawings shipped to you. If you simply want a high-res scan of your drawing, that is fine.

Character Designing
Because this is a process that requires a lot of experimentation and time to achieve the perfect result, this will be a contract job. It will be negotiated privately, but I expect to earn at least $10.00/hour doing this sort of work.

Illustrations
 These are dependent mainly on what media you choose for the finished product to be in. At the moment the options are digital, traditional on paper using artist-grade markers and colored pencils, and traditional on canvas using oil paints.
 Digital: Starts at $50, full color including background, at 8.5"X 11" and goes up based on size
 Traditional Oil Paint on Canvas: Starts at $120, full color including background, at 18"X 24" and goes up based on size. Please note that I DO NOT include frames. The client must have the piece framed themselves.

Shipping depends on the piece. Clients in the Tulsa area receive free shipping on all purchases excluding paintings!

Some Printmaking

I will be honest and say that Printmaking is very near to the bottom of artistic mediums that I enjoy, but since I have the technical knowledge and have done some successful pieces, I felt it best to show some of them from this last semester. I'll describe them each below.
